Signature Aviation Brings 100% Blended SAF to LAX

There’s no hiding from it; private aviation has a big green problem. As the pressure mounts for the sector to address the growing climate emergency, could sustainable aviation fuels  (SAF) solve aviation’s biggest barrier to net zero? One company that seems to think so is Signature Aviation.

In a huge milestone for both Signature, the industry and, dare we say, the planet as a whole, the world’s largest network of private aviation terminals has announced it will be bringing a 100% supply of blended Neste MY SAF to its location at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The collaboration with Neste, the leading producer of SAF, is set to be a significant contribution to the aviation sector's efforts to reduce emissions and an all-important step towards the goal of becoming net zero by 2050.

Neste’s SAF is made from sustainably sourced, 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Within the new announcement, Signature claims that Neste MY SAF, when used unblended, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the fuel’s life cycle compared with conventional jet fuel.

The blended SAF provided at Signature LAX includes 30% Neste MY SAF and 70% conventional jet fuel, enabling partners to achieve a 24% decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from air travel. (SAF is currently approved to use blended up to 50% with conventional jet fuel.)

Signature and Neste have been collaborating since 2022 when Signature expanded the availability of Neste MY SAF to all of its locations in California and has recently surpassed the 30 million gallon mark of total SAF delivered throughout its network.

Signature LAX is now the second private jet aviation terminal worldwide to ensure a 100% supply of blended SAF, joining Signature’s location at San Francisco International Airport.
