Ritz-Carlton New York NoMad: The Best of Midtown

Booking a hotel in New York City: an age-old conundrum, with location, service and most importantly, room size, all throwing curveballs into the mix. But, stretching up some 500 ft into the skyline, the Ritz-Carlton New York NoMad made an impression from the moment it opened back in the summer of 2022.

Completely new built from the ground up, the hotel is one of the tallest in the area; as a result, its views are some of the very best in the city. Inside, it’s a vision of slick, five-star service and design, with the Ritz-Carlton’s ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ (the brand’s name for the small army that forms the team; not ours), going above and beyond to create special stays.

Ritz-Carlton properties have previously struggled to forge their own identity, especially in a hub like NYC, but the NoMad opening helped prove this to be a concern of the past and properly leans into the city's glitzy vibrancy and bolshy persona while retaining the brand's signature level of luxury. That NYC hotel booking conundrum might just be no more.

Stay

Ritz-Carlton NoMad has 219 guestrooms, 31 suites and 16 residences. That’s a lot of rooms to choose from but let us help you narrow it down: pick one on a high floor (and ideally a suite). Request a south-facing room; the views are best that way, stretching all the way down the hotel’s Midtown location to the very south of Manhattan, where One World Trade Center reaches into the sky.

Each room is gently decorated in a neutral palette (with the exception of some signature suites, where there’s a touch more pizazz), with massive squishy beds ideally situated to soak up those views over a morning coffee. We’re in the upper realms of luxury here, so you can expect in-room amenities to be above par, from the Dipytque products in the bathroom to the premium mini bar.

If you’re really pulling out all the stops, though, go for the Ritz-Carlton Suite. The $20k-a-night accommodation sits up on the hotel’s 37th floor (the same as the Club Lounge), and gazes out on those skyline views through floor-to-ceiling windows in every room.

In the open-plan lounge and dining area, ochre 70s-style sofa occupies much of the space, with gold accents and moody lighting creating a glamorous finish. A media room leads onto the bedroom, decked out in calming neutral tones.

The real star of the show, however, is the bathroom – retreat here after a long day in the city for a soak in the oversized bathtub, which gazes over the skyscrapers beyond. The 2,100-sq-ft suite is one bed as standard but can be conjoined with neighboring rooms for some extra space.

Ritz-Carlton NoMad pulls out all the stops when it comes to F&B, with every outlet helmed by Spanish-American chef José Andrés, of the two-Michelin-star minibar in Washington DC.  Down on the first floor there is Zaytinya, a low-key Mediterranean spot, as well as the all-day Lobby Bar & Lounge.

For high-end fine dining, there is the hotel’s signature restaurant, The Bazaar by José Andrés, which fuses Andrés’ native Spanish cuisine with Japanese influences in a moody, atmospheric dining room. The private room is great for parties.

Way up on the 50th floor, swanky cocktail bar Nubeluz has quickly become one of NYC’s hottest reservations, with some of the best views of Manhattan drawing in the crowds. Alongside signature cocktails (get the Melon Cloud) and premium bottle service, Nubeluz serves up some seriously good light bites and snacks – the grilled cheese with mustard, the lobster roll and the potato chips (served in the bag) with labneh and salmon roe are all musts.

If you’re a Club Level guest, you also get access to the exclusive 37th-floor lounge, where drinks flow freely all day, from mimosas and bloody marys at breakfast to evening cocktail hour. An impressive spread of food is laid out all day too – Milk Bar cookies are my favorite sweet treat and jars of different flavors were out every day.

Relax

While much of the Ritz-Carlton NoMad’s appeal is in its enviable position overlooking the city, tucked away below lies another draw: a huge subterranean spa. Covering 6,800-sq-ft, the complex is a real refuge from the streets above, with eight treatment rooms (including a couple’s suite), a sauna, a steam room and a state-of-the-art gym.

The hotel has partnered with several world-leading wellness brands to deliver a range of signature treatments, including ESPA, Dr Dennis Gross and Augustinus Bader.

Explore

Ritz-Carlton NoMad is, by all standards, in the heart of the action. Smack bang in the middle of Floral District (something it pays homage to via the lobby’s seasonal flower truck and in-room arrangements), the hotel is brilliantly close to some of NYC’s main sites, including the Empire State Building and the Flatiron Building.

That famous Ritz-Carlton service naturally extends to the concierge team, who can help out with any reservations, car services or city tips you need – make good use of their top-notch advice.
