As the appetite for slow travel continues to grow, luxury trains are having a moment. The latest exclusive rail experience to capture our attention is La Dolce Vita Orient Express: a wonderfully extravagant new train set to travel around Italy on a series of unforgettable one- and two-night excursions.

Luxury hospitality firm Arsenale joined forces with Trenitalia and FS Treni Turistici Italiani to craft the itineraries. First-look images inside the new train reveal sumptuous interiors inspired by La Dolce Vita which translates as the ‘sweet life’ – a golden era of Italian art, architecture and design in the 1960s, made famous by the success of Federico Fellini’s film of the same name.

The train features 12 deluxe cabins, 18 suites and one extra special La Dolce Vita suite. Decked out with double beds, sofas and armchairs, each of the luxurious accommodations offers total privacy.

There are nine itineraries to choose from including Palermo to Rome, Venice to Portofino, and a captivating journey through Sicily. First departures are slated to take place next spring, with tickets due to go on sale in April.

“We are thrilled to officially open the doors to a new era of travel with La Dolce Vita Orient Express,” said Gilda Perez-Alvarado, CEO at Orient Express. “This endeavor embodies the essence of exquisite exploration, where sophistication meets adventure. As we embark on this journey together, we invite travelers to experience the pinnacle of elegance and excitement, immersed in the charm and splendor of Italy.”

Paolo Barletta, CEO at Arsenele Group added: “Italy can once again play a leading role, not only nationally but also internationally in the world of tourism, increasingly intercepting high-end tourism and creating a winning model. That’s why we have decided to invest in a unique product capable of creating conditions to welcome millions of travelers in a new, entirely Italian form of slow, sustainable and luxury tourism.”

Starting prices for a one-night itinerary onboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express are €3,500 (approx. $3,792) per person in a deluxe cabin and €4,700 (approx. $5,093) per person in a suite.
